Institutional description
The Intercultural Institute of Timisoara (IIT) is a non-governmental, not-for-profit organisation, established in 1992 and focused on promoting interculturalism and democratic participation.
IIT was among the first Romanian organisations to work on anti-Roma racism and discrimination and has a continuous work record on this topic for over three decades. Since 2006, IIT started to work on the development of approaches and resources to support the civic participation of migrants in Romania. IIT has also a rich experience of working in education, providing teacher training, support and resources for schools. In the context of its continuous cooperation with the Council of Europe, for the last decade, IIT has oriented all its activities based on the Council of Europe Reference Framework of Competences for Democratic Culture.
